another typical building found in the city of Lodz in Poland... this city had its peak in the early 20th Century and between world wars... a lot of these buildings still remember those times and have suffered from neglect in recent years... a sad sight but makes for a good place to photograph... if I get a chance to go there again next year, I might explore this motive a bit more...
thanks to everyone for visiting and commenting... please critique at will - i am looking to learn so any comments and tips are appreciated...

i love the decay of all things industrial... this place would be perfect for a house party...! the character of the building is superb... as long as the beams still hold up that is! :)
great composition and textures!

Wonderful urban portrait with lovely lighting. Thanks for providing the explanation as well.

Nice shot, the lighting is great. The feeling of abandonment and neglect is portrayed extremely well.

Excellent capture. I agree with Graham, there is a real feeling of abandonment and neglect, but a lot of history too as you ahve pointed out. An interesting place to visit and photograph.

a cool shot, but what if you make it B&W w/ high contrast?
5 Jun 2008 7:51pm
@Petr: i thought about it and I might play around with it still... the reason I did not post b&w here is that I would lose the colour composition - especially the windows facing straight ahead which have been covered with brown inserts... that didn't look right in b&w when I tried it previously...
Entire Eastern Europe is full of this kind of images. But only a trained eye can see... Thank you!

I like this a lot. Have you played around with the cropping at all? I find the light and colors on the facing building more compelling, but the one on the right seems to dominate.

Looking at the thumbnail I was thinking you must have building in Australia that look like they could be in Eastern Europe. Guess you've been visiting Poland.
