ancient guardians

Wharariki Beach near Cape Farewell at the top of the South Island of New Zealand is home to the Archway Islands...

it is definitely one of the most interesting locations that i have visited... you literally feel small there... everything is so big around you - the rocks, the beach, the open space...

the Archway Islands loom just offshore and seem to be like the guardians of this area... it gets very windy there and we had to abandon one of our evenings, as the wind was just too strong to get through...

this photo was taken on a quieter evening , although i did wish for a few more clouds around...
