Sylvia Falls

Sylvia Falls is one of the many magnificent waterfalls found in the Valley of the Waters in Blue Mountains, Australia. The track that follows these waterfalls is fantastic and we just ventured from one sublime fall to another.

The flow was not at its greatest but it still surprised me pleasantly as I expected nothing much but a trickle of water. We were treated to a wonderful array of cascading water set in lush rain forest. I also loved the bronze hues of the rocks at the bottom that added something different to the scene.

A tripod and circular polariser were essential to take this photo. My preference is to try and shoot longer exposures to make the water flow beautifully silky and also to emphasise the colours as much as possible. Using a polariser can be tricky though, as it can darken the shadows substantially and this may result in loss of detail in the rocks.
