Red Autumn leaves were at their full intensity when we visited this magical little spot in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales. We found this spot by chance and it was our best discovery during the trip. This path surrounded by deciduous trees goes all the way around a small lake and is located in a very secluded spot. My eyes just lit up when noticed this sight and we took all our time walking the path, taking photos and just enjoying the Autumn mood.
Composition wise, I love the shoot Autumn places with a path leading through. It gives me the feeling of actually walking along that path and also allows the eyes to follow through the scene and take in the colours and detail along the way.
I used a telephoto lens for this image. I focused on the leaves that were richest in colour and just past the immediate foreground. I also wanted to the end of the path and subsequent trees to be out of focus and to retain a bit of mystery, as well as not to take the attention away from the foliage too much.
