I always wanted to name a photo "Enjoy The Silence" after my favourite Depeche Mode song and what better place and time than this photo at appropriately named Playa del Silencio in Asturias, Spain. It was yet another great location in Asturias that captivated me from the moment we arrived earlier in the afternoon. The view during a sunny late summer day was also gorgeous. The beach was full of people swimming and sunbathing, despite the high tide, but as you can see by sunset it was beautifully free and silent. I was hoping for the waves to make bigger streaks in the foreground to form almost a kind of a star but the swell was just too small for that to happen. Instead, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset with nice soft light and magenta skies.
This is a very straight forward photo with minimal processing. I just added a touch of Orton effect to bring in extra dreaminess to the scene. I picked this photo from a whole series of frames because the colours were at their best right at this moment. To be honest, after I finished exploring the shore below and starting to head back to the car, I did not expect much else to happen and I was pleasantly surprised by this scene when I arrived at the top of the cliffs. It was also one of my first chances to test out new Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 lens that I acquired with possible future astrophotography in mind. It is great for wide landscapes too and I would have struggled to get the entire scene in with my usual wide angle 16-35mm lens.
Enjoying the silence at Playa del Silencio was definitely a great moment during our travels and I would not mind returning to this part of Spain again in the future.
