A much simpler image today, one of the very few that I have taken this year so far. It hass been rather quiet with limited travel and I ahve been taking my time to work through past photos that I have accumulated. We have some local travel planned a little bit later so hopefully I will get back into that photographic mindset. This photo is just a little bit of pure indulgence for myself in terms of heading out to my favourite local beach earlier this year and enjoying taking seascape photos like it used to be in much simpler times.
The stretch of the coast in this image has featured in many many of my photos. It is my go to place for local photography and it is great to get out there again and again, even if it is just to enjoy being outside and for a little bit of practice. I think this seascape is pretty straight forward and speaks for itself through its simplicity. I loved the light just before the sun went down and the cascade of water flowing over the rocks in the foreground. These are the things that attracted my to landscape photography in the first place many a year ago and I am glad that they still excite me today.
The photographic process here was as easy as it can be, I think. Arrive at the beach, do a walkabout to see what options there are for composition and how the waves are interacting with the shore, pick a spot, set up camera and tripod, put on a filter, wait for few god waves to come through, take a few photos, pack up and process at home. Sometimes it can be just that simple and uncomplicated. Photography can be both very complex and very straight forward. I love the challenges it presents in difficult light and conditions but I also like the easier moments as well. I think of these simpler times as cleansing and uncluttering of the mind and the soul, which refresh me for future endeavours.
