Another Aussie autumn has come and gone recently and I did not have too many opportunities to photograph it this time around. We did manage to find a couple of moments to get into autumn mood during our trip to the south in May though. Golden Valley Tree Par in Balingup is our favourite destination for fall photography and we were able to visit again to take in the colourful foliage. We enjoyed walking through the park and looking for new little spots where autumn has taken previous hold
This is one such place we spotted and it was an instant attraction for me. The colours around the bench were just beautiful and the tone of the bench itself was suitably autumnal as well. The branch above extended nicely overhead and framed the view, while the tree base anchored the composition on the right and provided good balance against the bench on the opposite side. I chose not to include more of the tree above because the sky was somewhat bland and I did not want to include any blown highlights or blotches in the frame.
Exposure was very straight forward and no blending was required. In post processing, I mostly did some dodging and burning and a little bit of additional colour grading to further develop the mood that we felt when we set on that bench and took the time to enjoy the surroundings. It was really almost all about the colours with also a touch of melancholy and nostalgia added in, as autumn always takes me back to my European youth where I was accustomed to this beautiful season and it was always my favourite time of the year.
